It's another fun week here on the EAE and it's all about Marketing! Now, marketing is basically anything you do to promote your website or blog and is a means to possible growth (or pay). Remember that scene in 'Field of Dreams' where Darth Vader tells the prince of thieves says "if you build it, they will come"? Yeah, that doesn't work with blogging.

With that knowledge in place, I want to talk a bit about marketing and your social media icons/platforms. See, you may have created all those icons and linked your perfectly put together platforms. You've branded each social network in every way possible and you're ready to start expanding your reach, grow your community and maybe even finally get a payout for all your hard work.
Well, congrats you - you made it further than a lot of people do. But if you're still not getting the reception you hoped for it's probably for a good reason.

Your EMAIL Address.
I was hanging out on witter not to long back and noticed a lot of retweets and favorites surrounding my products and services tweets. Since I know I have to do my part and not just sit on my thumb waiting for one or all of them to reach out to me, I decided to be proactive and go visit each of their blogs. Many were/are (in my opinion) in need of some design TLC.
Being the go-getter that I am, I headed to their contact me page.
- No "CONTACT ME Box
- No EMAIL Social Icon
- No EMAIL Address anywhere to be found.
So I promptly left their blogs.
Now I know I'm just a gal trying to earn a living and I was planning on sending out my pitch, see if I get any nibbles. Those bloggers may even been grateful that I didn't get a hold of their email addy's. Somehow I doubt they would feel the same way if I were a big name brand wanting to connect and have them review a major, high end product with a ginormous payout.
NOTE: Those of you who do include your addy but post it like this:
ElleAyEsse (at) gmail (dot) com
aren't getting anywhere either. If you want someone to actually send you an email, you're going to need to make it copy and pasteable or no one is going to use it.
So how do you fix the issue?
Easy-peasy lemon squeezy! All you need to do is get a little email icon and add it you tour other "get in touch" options. And/Or, you can simply type it in like so: elleayesse@gmail.com And/Or, make it clickable like this: Dude, email me! Straight to the point, that one.
Basically, if you don't give people a way to contact you, you're probably missing some really great opportunities. Oh, and my totally awesome design proposal won't make it's way to your inbox either, so get on that! ;)

How can readers or potential clients/sponsors/brads reach you?
Happy Marketing!

Yes, I would do this, but what about the spammers who infest my site like a swarm of nasty flies at the dump? I already get pitches almost every day for -hey heres some free third rate blog post that is infected with tons of spammy links. I'm afraid if I put my email out there, I'll start having even more spam than I ready get.
ReplyDeleteHi there Adrian, thanks for coming by!
DeleteHave you considered creating a separate email address specifically for your blog and business? That way your personal won't fill up with spam but brands and sponsors can still reach out! You should also consider getting a stat and IP tracker on your blog so you can go in and block those spammers and filter only good quality viewers :)
